Science Based Targets - SBTi target setting that gets validated

We help businesses across manufacturing, retail, real estate, energy, and food set credible, SBTi-validated climate targets — from your first emissions inventory right through to official approval.

What is SBTi?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global framework that sets out how much and how fast companies need to cut emissions to keep global warming below 1.5°C. Once your targets are validated by SBTi, they're publicly listed — a credible, third-party-verified commitment investors, customers, and regulators increasingly expect to see.

Setting SBTi targets involves measuring your Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, selecting the right methodology for your sector, calculating reduction pathways, and submitting through SBTi's validation process. It's not simple, which is where we come in.

What we do

End-to-end SBTi support, from baseline to badge

We handle every stage of the SBTi process so your team can stay focused on running the business.

GHG inventory & baseline

GHG inventory & baseline

GHG inventory & baseline

Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions measured and documented to GHG Protocol standards — the foundation for everything that follows.

Target development

GHG inventory & baseline

GHG inventory & baseline

We select the right SBTi methodology for your sector, model reduction pathways, and build targets you can actually achieve.

Submission & validation

Full preparation, documentation, and submission support — including responding to SBTi queries to get you approved faster.

Decarbonisation roadmap

Annual monitoring & recertification

Submission & validation

A practical plan showing your team where, how, and when to reduce emissions — not just a target on paper.

Annual monitoring & recertification

Annual monitoring & recertification

Track progress each year and support your five-year revalidation cycle so your targets stay current and approved.

Scope 3 value chain engagement

Annual monitoring & recertification

Annual monitoring & recertification

Supplier engagement strategies and data collection programmes to tackle the hardest part of most companies' footprint.

How it works

A clear process from first call to validated target

1 Scoping call (free)

We understand your business, existing data, and timelines. You'll leave knowing exactly what's involved and what it costs.

2 Emissions baseline

We calculate your Scope 1, 2 and 3 footprint, identify hotspots, and confirm your base year and boundary.

3 Target modelling

We model near-term and long-term targets aligned with your sector's SBTi pathway and evaluate what's achievable for your business.

4 Submission & approval

We prepare and submit your targets to SBTi, manage any queries, and guide you through to official validation.

5 Roadmap & ongoing support

A practical reduction roadmap and ongoing monitoring so your targets stay on track and your revalidation is handled.

Sector expertise

We know the sectors with the hardest SBTi challenges

SBTi is not one-size-fits-all. Different sectors have different methodologies, Scope 3 complexities, and FLAG obligations. Our consultants have deep experience in the industries where this is hardest.

How long does SBTi target setting take?

Most companies complete the process in 3–9 months, depending on the availability and quality of existing emissions data. Scope 3-heavy businesses typically take longer. We scope timelines clearly from the start so there are no surprises.

Near-term targets cover 5–10 year reductions aligned to a 1.5°C pathway — typically by 2030. Long-term targets cover your net-zero commitment, usually by 2050 at the latest. Both are required under SBTi's Corporate Net-Zero Standard.

If Scope 3 represents more than 40% of your total emissions, which it does for most companies, you're required to set Scope 3 targets. We help you identify which categories are material, collect the data, and build a credible Scope 3 target.

Engagement costs vary by company size, data availability, and scope. We offer fixed-price packages for SMEs and tailored engagements for mid-market and larger organisations. Get in touch for a no-obligation quote after a scoping call.

SBTi's Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2 (published in 2025) sets updated requirements for near-term and long-term targets, including clearer criteria for Scope 1, 2, and 3, and new rules around climate transition plans. We ensure all targets we develop are aligned with the latest version.

False or misleading climate disclosures can attract civil penalties of up to $15 million or 10 percent of annual turnover, whichever is greater. Directors may be held personally liable. Governance and Scope 1 and 2 disclosures carry full liability from year one. A three-year modified liability period limits enforcement for Scope 3, scenario analysis, and transition plan disclosures to regulator-only action.

Both. We have fixed-scope packages designed for SMEs that make the process clear and cost-effective, and we work with mid-market and large organisations on tailored engagements. SBTi's SME route also offers a simplified pathway we can guide you through.
