Product certification support for manufacturers

GECA, Cradle to Cradle, Declare and sustainable product certification support across Australia and New Zealand

We help product manufacturers navigate sustainable product certification, from early scoping and gap analysis through to application preparation, audit support and renewal.

Whether you are considering GECA certification, Cradle to Cradle Certified®, a Declare label or another product sustainability pathway, we help you understand what is required, what evidence you already have, and what needs to be addressed before you apply.

Our founder is the former Head of Standards and Compliance at GECA. That means we understand how certification standards are developed, how evidence is reviewed, and what manufacturers need to prepare before going through assessment.

Which certification is right for your product?

Not every product needs the same certification. The right pathway depends on your product category, target market, customer requirements, sustainability claims and commercial goals.

For some manufacturers, GECA certification is the most practical pathway because it supports Australian procurement, Green Star projects and tender requirements. For others, Cradle to Cradle Certified® may be more appropriate because it focuses strongly on material health, circular design and continuous improvement. Declare may be the right option where architects, specifiers or project teams need transparent product ingredient information.

We help you compare the options and choose the certification pathway that makes commercial and technical sense.

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)

Australia's only ISO 14024-compliant ecolabel, recognised by Green Star, WELL and ISC. We are GECA-trained, GECA-recommended, and our team helped develop the standards.

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)

The global circular economy standard assessing material health, circularity, clean energy, water stewardship and social fairness across Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels.

Declare label

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)

Declare label

A material transparency label that tells buyers exactly what's in your product. Required for Living Building Challenge projects and increasingly used in commercial and institutional specifications.

How we work with you — end to end

1. Certification scoping

We assess your products, manufacturing processes and target markets to recommend the right certification pathway — or combination of certifications — for your business goals and budget.

2. Gap analysis and evidence mapping

We identify exactly what documentation, testing and process changes are needed before you apply, so there are no surprises mid-audit.

3. Application preparation

We prepare your submission, compile your evidence bundle and brief your team so the assessment body has everything they need from day one.

4. Audit support

We're with you through the assessment process, answering technical questions, responding to auditor requests and managing any corrective actions quickly.

5. Renewal and continuous improvement

Certification isn't a set-and-forget exercise. We help you plan for recertification cycles, track improvement commitments and keep your credentials current as standards evolve.

Why work with us

GECA partnership and former standards leadership

auverde has a formal partnership agreement with GECA and is listed on GECA’s official consultant directory. Our founder previously led Standards and Compliance at GECA, giving manufacturers practical insight into how the standards are developed, how evidence is reviewed and what assessors look for during certification.

We do not just hand you a checklist. We help you understand the requirements, prepare the evidence, manage the process and keep your certification current.

Support across multiple certification pathways

We can help you compare GECA, Cradle to Cradle Certified®, Declare and other product sustainability pathways, so you do not waste time or money pursuing the wrong certification.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's no single answer, and we'd be cautious of anyone who gives you one. The timeline depends on how many products you're certifying, how much documentation already exists, how complex your supply chain is, and how quickly your team can respond to information requests. What we can tell you is that going in prepared, with a proper gap analysis done first. This makes the whole process significantly faster and smoother.

GECA covers 27 product and service types including flooring, furniture, adhesives, paints and coatings, cleaning products, textiles and more. Each category has its own standard. We'll confirm early on whether your product has an active GECA standard and what that means for your application.

GECA is Australia's only Type I ecolabel certified to ISO 14024, which means it meets the independent, third-party verification requirements that rating tools like Green Star and ISC require. Products with GECA certification earn credits in these systems, which is a significant commercial advantage for manufacturers selling into construction and fitout projects

C2C Certified® evaluates products across five categories: material health (what's in the product and whether it's safe), material reutilisation (how the product can be recovered at end of life), clean energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness. Each category is scored separately, and the overall certification level (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum) is set by the lowest-scoring category.

Yes. C2C Certified® is a global standard administered by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, and Australian manufacturers can pursue it regardless of where their products are sold. It's particularly valuable for manufacturers exporting to Europe or North America, where circular economy credentials are increasingly expected.

Yes, there is some overlap. Both certifications consider environmental and social impacts, including material choices, restricted substances, responsible production and circular economy principles. However, GECA is generally more focused on Australian ecolabel and procurement recognition, while Cradle to Cradle places greater emphasis on material health, circularity and continuous product improvement.

Declare is a product transparency label administered by the International Living Future Institute. It discloses every ingredient in a product, where it was manufactured, and how long the product is expected to last. It doesn't judge whether those ingredients are good or bad, it simply makes the information available. That transparency is what makes it valuable to architects, specifiers and sustainability-conscious procurement teams.

Declare is required for products used on Living Building Challenge projects, and it's becoming a standard request on commercial interiors, healthcare and education projects where procurement teams need to demonstrate material transparency. Even outside formal requirements, having a Declare label signals to specifiers that you have nothing to hide, which is increasingly a differentiator.

The Living Future Institute maintains a Red List of chemicals considered most harmful to human health and the environment. A Declare label shows whether a product contains any Red List ingredients. Products that are Red List Free — meaning they contain none of those chemicals — carry significant weight on Living Building Challenge and other high-performance projects. We can help you understand where your products sit before you apply.

You can apply to any of these certifications directly and understanding the process yourself is always worthwhile. What we provide is speed, accuracy and confidence. Manufacturers who work with us avoid the back-and-forth that comes from incomplete submissions, and they go into the process knowing exactly what's expected before the assessment starts.
